FOREWORD If you're looking for mystery look no further than a cat Cute and cuddly one minute and fierce and playful the next cat behavior can seem harder to crack than the toughest code Sadly this lack of understanding between humans and cats can often lead to cats being left in shelters or given away from their homes due to problem behaviors But beneath their puzzling exteriors and sometimes frustrating antics cats are wonderful creatures whose friendship is well worth the extra effort I've devoted my life to learning everything I can about domestic cats and their behavior and helping owners make the best out of the relationships they have with their kitty companions This work is incredibly important to me Finding ways for cats and their owners to live harmoniously is not just a personal passion it is also a method of saving lives After many years of observing cats and studying animal cognition I founded the Cat Behavior Clinic which helps sometimes desperate owners find solutions to cats most troubling behaviors
The best way that owners can interact with their feline pets is to dive into the mind and the eyes of a cat By creating an environment that appeals to a cat's wild instincts owners can avoid most of the problems I see on a day to day basis at the Cat Behavior Clinic Make sure your cat's home includes daily play times vertical spaces to climb and explore scratching areas and food puzzles to keep things fun and interesting Cats are not pack animals so it is also important to provide enough litter boxes I suggest one for each cat and an additional box And most of all remember that even a cat's most baffling actions often have simple solutions crack the code and you will be on your way to becoming a feline phenomenon Cats have so much to offer in return they deserve a bit of effort on our parts to understand the behaviors that so often confuse us Whether they are twitching their ears meowing loudly sitting right on our keyboards or lazing in the sun cats are always worth getting to know just a bit more Mieshelle Nagelschneider Founder The Cat Behavior Clinic
