BEST Short Distance Runner Cheetah With their lean bodies long stride and sharp claws for traction cheetahs are designed to be fast In fact they're the fastest animal on land When chasing prey they can exceed speeds of 110 km 70 mi per hour about the rate of cars on a highway But using so much energy takes its toll Cheetahs wear out quickly and need time to rest before they eat their meal or try again their hunt is successful only about half the time
