In 1911 the famous hunter and writer Jim Corbett killed an Indian tiger that had been a human eater for the previous eight years This tiger was reported to have killed more than four hundred people in that time Corbett said that most tigers that become human eaters are old or injured animals The tigers turn to people as their prey because they are not able to catch swifter animals Hunters sometimes wound a tiger and then fail to follow it and kill it These tigers become even more dangerous to people Even recently some areas in India Bangladesh and Southeast Asia have had trouble with tigers that have become human eaters But today the number of places where tigers live has dwindled and the survival of their species is endangered

3 Do lions eat people Like tigers lions are rarely human eaters but this is not always true In British East Africa now Uganda around the beginning of the last century a number of lions terrorized the construction workers who were building a railroad The lions killed so many of the workers that building was halted completely for weeks At least twenty eight of the Indian railway workers and unknown scores of Africans were killed most of these poor victims were eaten Human-eating lions have appeared in many other places since that time including Tanzania South Africa and Mozambique In spite of all these accounts it is still true that lions rarely bother people at all
