THE KOREAN PENINSULA 1 South Korea is part of a landmass in East Asia called the Korean Peninsula It's been said that the peninsula resembles a tiger with its head and feet bordering China and the rest of its body surrounded by ocean 2 According to legend Korea was founded by an ancient leader named Dangun According to the story Dangun's mother was a bear CHINA and he lived for more than 1,000 years before becoming a mountain god The founding of Korea is celebrated every October 3 as National Foundation Day 5
